Vegetarian Split Pea Soup

Many of you were enthusiastic about the lentil soup recipe I posted a few weeks back. Today’s split pea soup recipe is similar in spirit. It’s a delicious, healthy, textured soup made from an impossibly short list of ingredients. No ham hocks in this version, simply green split peas and onions cooked until tender, then partially pureed. The vibrant green soup is finished with a generous drizzle of golden olive oil, a few flecks of lemon zest, and a dusting of smoked paprika to give the soup some smoky depth.

This originally was an experiment in food, photography and weblogging, combining three hobbies of mine. Since 2002, Food blogging has become a full time occupation for many, and the quality of some of them are stunning. Several years ago I was asked to judge the Food Blog awards, a very difficult task. In the photography category, I was only able to pick the winner but looking at every single photo posted by the finalist, and if any one of them was less than flawless, the blog was eliminated. The competition has only gotten tougher since then.
